Another Intruder

Earlier this week, Xander said he saw a lizard under the refrigerator. I didn't think much of it until I came downstairs the next day and screamed when I saw Mr Lizard run in front of the stairs and under the entertainment center! He is a very fast little guy! Today, Xander found him under the computer desk. He was cornered with the 3 kids around him so I was able to get some pictures of the little beady eyed intruder. We tried to chase him out the front door but he went under the couch instead. I think he's a Six-Lined Racerunner or maybe some kind of skink.

Later on, Grace went to the bathroom and starts screaming frantically! The lizard had been hiding behind the door and there was no way out of the bathroom except to walk past him. Apparently, looking at the lizard when you have him cornered is cool, but looking at the lizard when he has you cornered is not cool! I went in and picked Grace up and carried her to the upstairs bathroom and she said, "I hope the lizard doesn't get me here!" Poor Grace...not to mention she fell in the potty earlier today, so this was a bad day for her and bathrooms!

Back downstairs, Xander and Greta were keeping watch on the lizard. When I came back down he was still there. I opened the front door and strategically placed the kids so they blocked alternative exits, and took a piece of heavy paper and tried to push him out towards the front door. Eventually, we got him out!! Everyone can sleep better tonight!

Too funny. Since I've lived in Florida now for about 8 or 9 years I've come to realize that lizards are our friends. Lizards are a common thing in households in Florida LOL. The kids here catch them and put them on their ears as earings. (No I'm not kidding) We have two or three lizards that live on our front porch. Kaylea says hi to them when we leave or come home. Gotta love Florida!

When I first moved in with Wes, his lizard lived loose in the house. It was a Savannah Monitor. The thing was huge. Think big iguana that eats mice and bites feet when you're sitting on the couch barefoot. Yesterday must have been the day for reptiles. I'll blog about my experience later....

Oh my goodness, what a hoot!!! You have some crazy adventures!!

This reminds me of when Jamie & I moved into this house and had to chase a mouse from the coat closet out the front door. Jamie used the boxes our blinds came in and made a literal 'rat maze' for the mouse to exit our house.

One of my only phobias--reptiles--no matter how big or small. Just looking at those pictures makes me squirm. I'd be with Grace, upstairs, crying. Uncle Brad (northern, city-dweller)

I'm surprised Xander didn't want to keep him for a pet. And, I think you were right with your IDing...he sure looks like that photo.
Maybe the girls would feel better if you explained to them that the lizard keeps the house free of the bad types of bugs???
Bet you scared that lizard out of 5yrs of life!!
Poor Grace, I don't blame her for not wanting to cross paths...
