A month of firsts!

In the past month or so we have had a lot going on but not so much blog posting! I'm going to try to post more so this month my blog will have the theme of "firsts" and starting on Sept 1st, I'll try to have a new post about something new every day! (ok, maybe every other day, or every third day...we'll see!) These firsts will be in no particular order and I have a lot of material from the past few months saved up!

My first one, is that Xander started First Grade last month!!! Wow. I can't believe I have a first grader. I have a lot of vivid memories of first grade. This means that I'm going to have to really start watching what I say and do because he will remember it when he grows up!! And tell his therapist! Sure, I remember kindergarten and preschool and before too, but he's only going to get stronger, deeper memories from now on.

Xander was not looking forward to going back to school at all but when the day came he didn't try to get out of it and got dressed and ready on time without complaining. Here's my big guy on the first day of school.

Note his long hair. We were growing the bangs out and he wanted to have a surfer look. I thought it looked cute and cool. Because cool is important to first graders. Not long after this, he went to a cheap haircutting place that doesn't understand what "grow the bangs out" means. And now we have to grow them out all over again and he's not looking nearly as cool but don't tell him!!

So what do we think about first grade? So far, we like it! Xander likes his class and I like what I am seeing and hearing. His teacher seems very nice, and good with the kids, he has a little friend that seems to be a very nice boy, and he's doing well. Xander seems to be doing better with the higher expectations of first grade and is telling me that his teacher is fun and cheerful and he isn't complaining much. And one of the best parts- they said we'd have no big fundraisers this year!! Yay! I hate those things but always felt obligated last year to spend too much money on stuff I didn't want so he could support his school and get a prize I didn't really want him to have. I hope the rest of the year goes as well as his first month.

I love his hair! Hate that about the "cheap hair place" but I'll be sure to keep quiet about his new doo....wink wink. :)
